Runtastic

Personal technology seems to be making major progress with the help of virtual reality. Many applications have been designed and released for diet and exercise programs which can be used through virtual reality.

One of these new applications is being released by the already hugely popular Runtastic. It is known as the main go-to app center for fitness programs, home based workouts and even sleep improvement applications. Runtastic is based in Austria and has now claimed to enter into the virtual reality world, working with Oculus Rift to create a fitness application to be used in VR. This new application will be completely original and made exclusively for the Oculus Rift headset for virtual reality.

For those who are new to the idea/program, 7 Minute Workout is a high intensity exercise session which is spread across 12 workout steps, each lasting for 30 seconds only. In the version developed by Runtastic, however, 3D avatars have been added that will act as the user’s personal trainers. Entertaining and visually appealing backgrounds have been added to make working out fun; for example workouts can be set against a “black hole set in the future”, the hillside or the beachside. Runtastic has promised to keep updating its library of various exciting backgrounds to keep users interested in the routines. The fitness application includes squats, lunges, yoga and the official 7 Minute Workout; all of which combine to tone and shape your body while in the comfort of your home. Except you get to feel like you’re at the beach, near a hill or in outer space while you’re working out, thanks to the virtual reality technology added.

This application will be made compatible with Oculus Rift’s headset for virtual reality and aside from the cost of that headset the app will cost the user virtually no money at all. So instead of an expensive gym membership, you can easily get elite workout routines at home, right in your living room! Or wherever else you prefer to work out. Runtastic’s CEO – Florian Gschwandtner – believes that there is a huge market for this application along with other future apps similar to this. He was found saying “We’re already working to integrate additional activity types and have found there is really no limit. In 2015, we could see Runtastic and Oculus engaging gym fans, runners, bikers and more.”

The application by Runtastic will officially be released sometime in 2015. Virtual Reality Times will keep following Runtastic’s progress and report back with all further details.
