BlazeRush

Racing games are being churned out in mass supply to meet the ever rising demand from fans. Recently, Codemasters launched a demo version of their hit racing game called Toybox Turbos. Toybox Turbos is a top down racing video game, and has just now received support for Oculus Rift’s virtual reality head mounted gear (HMD).

Another game that is new to the circuit has been released by indie developer Targem Games which is doing exactly what Codemasters did: Targem Games launched a patch for a top down virtual reality racing game, titled ‘BlazeRush’. The game is compatible with Oculus Rift’s virtual reality headset. Going a step further, the developer gave fans an update that includes virtual reality support with a free patch that integrates BlazeRush with Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2). This update also grants the game a new version number which is 1.0.3.

BalzeRush has been defined by its developers as an exciting, thrilling virtual reality racing game that will keep the player interested and on edge. They do mention, however, that it is not your typical, run of the mill racing game. Targem Games has described BlazeRush as an ‘arcade racing survival game’ that has two player modes in it: 4 player local multiplayer mode and 8 player online mode. BlazeRush is set on three different planets with amazingly detailed graphics, making the game more fun to play. There are a total of sixteen cars to choose from and players can pick any racing track set on any of the three planets available. There are plenty of scenic tracks that have been built for the express purpose of serious racing. Players are given a selection of weapons to be used against their opponents, which are available through power ups in the game. Using these weapons has a side effect though: it creates a massive crash within the track and some cars might even go up in flames. The effect is basically widespread chaos that could target other cars in the vicinity. To add to the challenge of the game, a huge mechanical digger can be seen chasing around some players on the track. If it gets to the players and their cars, they will be destroyed on impact.

Since Steam has an ongoing holiday sale, BlazeRush is available at a discounted price which is £5.24 GBP. A demo version of the title is available for download on the Oculus Share Portal. Virtual Reality Times will keep following BlazeRush and report back with all further updates.
