SAM_0252This year, Zero Latency is embarking on another milestone in its free-roaming virtual reality experiences. As its first venture outside Australia, the Melbourne-based VR company is now set to bring its free-roam multiplayer VR game experiences to Japan, thanks to a strategic partnership with Sega Live Creation.

This partnership will mark the very first warehouse-scale, free-roaming VR to come to Japan. It will be launching next month – just in time for the 20th anniversary celebration of Sega Live Creation’s Tokyo Joypolis, a popular amusement venue in Japan. The Tokyo Joypolis will be the second venue for Zero Latency, and the first outside Australia. The partnership touts the VR experience as the “world’s best virtual reality experience” to come to Tokyo.

Zero Latency will be deploying a custom-built VR contraption specifically made for the Tokyo Joypolis, and will be a permanent attraction in the amusement park. According to Tim Ruse, CEO of Zero Latency, it is a dream come true for their company to bring the Zero Latency brand to Japan in partnership with one of the world’s “most iconic entertainment brands”.

Zero Latency’s free-roaming VR technology is built from the ground up to allow its players to roam around and explore a virtual environment without confinement into a closed space or room. A comfortable and spacious location the size of a warehouse will be their physical venue, and the Zero Latency’s VR headsets provide the virtual setting. Multiple players can roam a large space and take on missions individually or with up to six other people on a team. Zero Latency says that the high-end equipment that the game requires makes for a substantially better VR experience than people can get at home.

For the Tokyo Joypolis installation of the VR experience, Zero Latency will be using a customized FRVR platform featuring all-new content, weapons, and player wearables with an all-new motion tracking technology.

The free-roam VR experience will be offered starting next month, and the companies have released trailers for what’s in store for Tokyo Joypolis patrons.
