MASK Predicts Your Facial Expressions in VR
MASK is a hardware and software solution that instead of reading your facial expressions as you make them, it predicts and transfers them to a VR avatar.
MindMaze’s MASK – A Facial Expressions Solution for VR
MindMaze claims it created a convincing and responsive new platform that uses bio-signal processing and machine learning to read electrical impulses in people’s faces and predict the expression they will make tens of milliseconds before they actually make it.
“MASK is a powerful step forward in virtual reality, making social VR and AR a truly emotional experience. By syncing the physical body in all its expressive capacity with a digital avatar, MASK allows developers to build playable characters that emote in pre-real-time.”
The company raised over $100 million in funding last year to work on this and other related projects, and the first tangible result will be this light and cheap device that would fit into most VR headsets. Estimated release date and price are still unknown.
MindMaze is licensing its software and hardware solutions to Virtual Reality developers and has suggested possible applications for social VR apps and multiplayer gaming experiences.
