Steam VR Games Now Work on the Oculus Launcher
Oculus updated its launcher to provide quick access to any Oculus Rift compatible application on PCs, whether they come from Steam or any other platform.
New Oculus Launcher Update Features Parties Chat System
The Oculus Launcher focuses mostly on running VR apps and games from the Oculus Store, which makes a lot of sense. But there are other sources for your app and games, you probably have Rift compatible VR games on Steam or another platform, and that won’t be a problem anymore.
The new Oculus update to its portal allows users to access all your compatible games and applications on your PC no matter where they come from. You won’t need to take off your Oculus Rift headset in order to see your full library of games and apps.
Oculus Launcher new update also features ‘Parties’, a functionality that allows three Oculus Rift users to chat with each other across different apps. This helps players know if their friends are ready for a multiplayer match or not.
By updating its launcher, Oculus improves user immersion while wearing the Rift headset, but some may claim that the company is finally acknowledging that Oculus Store isn’t as complete or fulfilling as they want it to be.
Oculus needs to show that there are many applications and games that you can try with a Rift headset in order to promote its adoption by consumers. And, let’s face it, the Oculus Store doesn’t have all the best VR experiences currently available in the market, so this act of humility might be one of the best strategies the company has ever played to gain popularity and new users.
