Cannes, the world’s biggest film festival, will be accessible on Epic Game’s Fortnite thanks to the festival’s new partnership with the international media app Brut.

Brut Cannes

The festival will debut in the metaverse during which its famous backdrop is to be recreated in Fortnite. The experiment will take gamers to the festival through the eyes of three characters who will include a journalist who will be fathering the material and doing an interview; an actor who will be auditioning with a major director, taking part in a photocall, and walking the red carpet; a director who has to find the pages of a film script loss in a city and send these to a producer, collect them together and scale through the famous steps of Palais to attend a film premiere.

Cannes on Fortnite will feature other quests that tackle engaged subjects such as climate change as well as inclusion and diversity in the film industry.

Every character in the Cannes metaverse will be having a unique storyline along with quests to undertake that will direct players to stroll on the Promenade de la Croisette alongside their friends or discover Palaise des Festivals, pose for pics on the red carpet or scale the famous Cannes steps, unlock hidden locations and or to collect Fortnite special effects.

The Cannes immersive experiment is just one of Brut’s tech-driven initiatives that are geared at making the Cannes Film Festival more available to wider audiences, including younger audiences who would be active on platforms such as Fortnite.

Brut co-founder and CEO Guillaume Lacroix said that it was important to direct Cannes in a format that is more widely used by the next generations to make the film festival, the biggest in the world, accessible to most demos. To this end, video game platforms such as Fortnite provide a great platform for engaging these younger generations. Brut is a value-driven app that is backed by Francois-Henri Pinault and James Murdoch.

The company says it has been building expertise in leveraging new platforms and adding Cannes to the metaverse is a natural extension of the company’s commitment to adopting new technologies. The company says that it is also in the process of building “an exciting metaverse” where it will play an important role.

An exact model of the many aspects of the Cannes setting was recreated in Fortnite by the celebrated French studio Vysena. These include details such as the Croisette, and even the Palais des Festivals along with the famous steps at Cannes. The French studio specializes in maps and the maps it has recreated of Cannes are ultra-realistic and with an impressive “Brut-style” visual and audio aspects.

Brut is also to host the House of Creators at the Cannes Film Festival where some 100 creators from around the world will be brought to the Croisette where they will meet famous actors, filmmakers as well as agents in small groups. Brut also partnered with the NFT artist Pplpleasr for a fundraiser held on May 2 where 75 NFTs were sold and the proceeds go to USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative which provides support to young female creators.
