Best Forklift Operator: This VR App Lets You Operate a Forklift in Virtual Reality
Want to get the experience of operating a forklift and pushing some pallets onto trucks inside a virtual reality environment? Give Best Forklift Operator a try.
Gamedust’s Best Forklift Operator is playable not just on 2D screens but now on virtual reality, too. The game is launching in Early Access with full VR support for PC VR headsets.
Best Forklift Operator takes you into an immersive experience inside various realistic-looking warehouses and yards where you sit in a virtual forklift and move pallets from one point to another. Operating a forklift over hours might seem like a mundane job but it is actually quite addictive and you can find yourself engrossed in this activity for hours.
When you open Best Forklift Operator, you find a truck with an open loading area along with wooden crates, cable drums, and water dispensers strapped to pallets all of which must be loaded onto shelves.
There isn’t much to do in Best Forklift Operator apart from loading pallets but this can actually be fun. There is quite some meditative rhythm to this otherwise monotonous activity. You will be quietly driving the forklift and cleaning up the warehouse without much interruption.
Best Forklift Operator has full motion control support which enables you to operate the forklift using your two hands. This can be great sim training for you in case you are not OSHA certified to operate a forklift, helping you brush up on your forklift skills through its dedicated training mode.
You will master the few switch interactions in the game such as forward, backward, fork up, fork down, and how to tilt the fork forwards and backward. With time, you will get better at this. After getting a handle on the forklift, you can graduate to the Career Mode of the game.
As the player advances through their career, the assignments they are tasked with get progressively difficult. If they damage or lose a product while operating the forklift, they lose money. The game also features an Arcade Mode where the warehouse yard is transformed into a makeshift rally track where the player races to clock the best time without damaging the cargo. Although the game is not necessarily multiplayer, there is a global leaderboard where you can compare scores against those of other players from across the globe.
The game offers you great immersion. You can look around, assess the height of the fork with the big boxes, and even look in the side mirrors when reversing.
However, like most VR games today, there is no haptic feedback so you will be merely waving the controller in the air when you want to grab the virtual levers.
Best Forklift Operator is available in Early Access on Steam.
