Now it is possible for Quest Store developers to offer potential buyers 15 to 30-minute trials of their games and apps thanks to a new feature called Try Before You Buy.

The Try Before You Buy feature has been integrated into the Meta Quest app as well as in the Quest system software. It enables developers to opt in without having to integrate an SDK or release app updates. This is because the Try Before You Buy feature is system-level.

Developers set the trial duration, which can range from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. The feature enables Quest owners to access the free trial from the store pages of the apps. The trial duration commences when a user launches the app but it will only accrue when the user is actually inside virtual reality. When a user with a free trial takes off their headsets, the timer pauses.

When the stipulated trial period has elapsed, the user loses access to the app. However, they can also choose to purchase it, in which case they will maintain the same progress along with the achievements that they had made during their free trial period.

The new feature gives developers analytics that shows the number of people that used their free trial offers. It also provides data on the impact of this on sales.

The Try Before You Buy feature has only been made available for the Quest Store apps. It is not available on the Rift Store or App Lab.
