Virtual Reality gaming startup ForeVR games has raised $10 million in Series A funding that will go into growing the company’s library of its Wii Sports-like titles.

At a time when Meta is struggling to onboard users onto virtual work meetings on its metaverse platforms, the virtual reality gaming startup ForeVR Games is seeing some success with a number of fun casual games in VR such as bowling, darts, and cornhole.

ForeVR Games has now announced that it raised $10 million in a Series A funding round. The new funding will be channeled into building the startup’s gaming portfolio and establishing itself as the leader of Wii Sports in VR. The funding round was led by Lobby Capital. Also participating in the funding round were Galaxy Interactive and Bessemer Venture Partners.

With the new infusion of capital, the company has now raised $18.5 million. Angel investors in the startup include Zynga founder Mark Pincus and Twitch founders Emmett Shear and Justin Kan.

Similar to Wii Sports, ForeVR games are very easy to play. The startup launched in 2020 and has so far released three games including ForeVR Bowl available for $20, ForeVR Darts available for $10, and its newest game, ForeVR Cornhole that retails at $15.

You can play ForeVR games either in single-player or multiplayer format on Meta Quest and Quest 2. Players can do a lot in ForeVR games including unlocking skins for cornhole bean bags/boards, darts, and bowling balls. They can also listen to music in the game via YouTube-powered jukeboxes. There are different “halls” and bowling lanes that players can explore like playing darts in a British pub or bowling in Atlantis.

All the games in ForeVR are connected. A player owning multiple ForeVR games can meet up with their friends via in-game portals which enables them to bowl on the moon and then head to the ForeVR pool hall in Texas via the portals.

With the latest infusion of cash, ForeVR is planning to continue expanding its “ForeVRse”, as the company calls its metaverse gaming experience.

On November 17th, ForeVR will also be launching its fourth title known as ForeVR Pool. This will be a virtual reality 8-ball pool game that is suited for all ages. The title will be available in Meta Quest Store and will retail at $20.

In early October, Meta stated that it had more than 400 apps on Quest Store. A third of these titles are already grossing millions of dollars in revenue. ForeVR says that it has already surpassed the $1 million revenue mark although the startup didn’t provide actual figures.

ForeVR is also planning to leverage legs on avatars that Meta is set to introduce soon to its avatars.
