The utility of Meta Quest 1 has significantly diminished over time. The unveiling of its third iteration, Quest 3, has highlighted the stark technological obsolescence of Quest 1.

An increasing number of developers have been observing this trend, as the challenge of maintaining the performance of their VR games on the Quest 1 continues to grow. Presently, FitXR is unveiling significant changes aimed at users using the headset in VR gaming.

FitXR Will NO Longer Be Available on Quest 1

The studio responsible for the subscription-based VR fitness app FitXR announced that the app will henceforth not be available on the Quest 1 headset in its familiar form. The changes will affect the accessibility of the Quest 1 headset. The Quest 1 headset is now outdated and can no longer keep up with the advancements in the virtual reality game which has created various performance challenges.

Soon, signing up for a new FitXR membership through Quest 1 will no longer be possible. From September, customers with current memberships via Quest 1 headset will be onboarded onto the free version of the virtual reality fitness app.

FitXR is Now Free on Quest 1

The FitXR version exclusively available for Quest 1 is said to feature an extensive and constant library of workouts. As per the developers, it encompasses all the existing studios like Boxing, Dance, HIIT, Combat, and Sculpt. It’s worth noting that no fresh workouts will be introduced to this version.

Furthermore, there won’t be any technical updates. Nevertheless, working in conjunction with Meta, the studio aims to guarantee users maintain an optimal experience with Quest 1, and will persistently oversee the application’s performance to promptly tackle any glitches or concerns that may surface.

In the final version of the upcoming release, approximately 300 courses will be accessible to users. Additionally, users can now influence the workouts that will be included in the official lineup of the final version. Providing input is as simple as sending an email to [email protected]. The final list of courses will be unveiled by FitXR at the end of this month. Users who fulfill any of the following criteria will be eligible to access the final version of Quest 1:

  • You own the Legacy FitXT on Quest 1
  • You have the Legacy BoxVR on Quest 1
  • At the point of freeze, you have either a monthly or annual membership on Quest 1.

The Meta Quest 1 Headset is to be Discontinued

Earlier this year, Meta announced its plans to end support for Quest 1 headset. While continued usage will remain feasible, no further enhancements or updates will be introduced moving forward.

In the near future, the availability of Meta’s social features will cease on Quest 1. From April this year, third-party studios have been granted official permission to stop supporting Quest 1 for their VR games. This inevitably indicates a growing trend of VR games gradually vanishing from the Quest 1 platform and transitioning into Meta’s next-generation headsets.
