The New Update v59 Adds Remote Display App to Quest 2 and 3
The latest update, v59, for Quest is currently rolling out. This update introduces a battery-saver option for Quest 3, avatar legs in Horizon Home, and, gradually, grants access to Meta’s Remote Display app on Quest 2 and 3.
The update has been rolling out to Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro owners since October 23, 2023. As is customary, it may require a week or more for the update to be accessible to all users.
New Quest 3 Features and Improvements
Suggested Boundary
The Quest 3 headset automatically suggests a boundary based on the available free space around you. It also allows users to edit the suggested boundary before they can accept it. This suggested boundary will run whenever you launch the app and there is no defined boundary in your space.
Assisted Space Setup
This feature enables your Quest 3 to run a rapid 3D scan of your environment, automatically generating a basic depiction of the room’s surfaces, encompassing walls, tables, and furniture. Consequently, there’s no need for manual additions to your spatial setup. The assisted space setup will automatically initiate when you launch a mixed reality application.
Battery Saver
You have the option to improve your device’s battery life by reducing the graphics settings. To access the Battery Saver feature, navigate to “Power” within the System Settings.
Shortcut For Introductory Experience ‘First Encounters’
Meta has introduced a shortcut to the introductory mixed reality encounter, “First Encounters,” within specific Horizon Home environments.
The General Improvements
Remote Display
This app was initially exclusive to Meta Quest Pro and will gradually become accessible to Quest 2 and Quest 3 users. Remote Display enables you to display your computer screen in a VR environment, effectively emulating the functionality of the well-known VR application, Virtual Desktop.
Avatar Legs
In Horizon Home, your avatar is no longer legless, making them visible in the avatar mirror and to other visitors.
Better Hand Tracking in Mixed Reality
Meta has considerably improved the hand tracking in mixed reality via passthrough. You can now more seamlessly interact with aps and panels inside mixed reality.
New Software Update Settings
Meta is transforming how users get Meta Quest updates. Automatic updates are now disabled by default and users will receive notifications on their devices whenever there is a new software update. Users also have the option of automatically enabling software updates.
Improvements in the Parental Supervision Tools
Parents now have direct access to the Meta Family Center as well as all the supervision tools available in the Meta Quest app. Parents and guardians will soon be able to even set daily time limits along with scheduled breaks for their kids to moderate virtual reality addiction.

Additional New Features
You can now see your friends’ activities in the People tab. The tab also shows active call and app invitations that users can deploy in connecting or playing together.
In the chat (VR or Meta Quest app), users can now add reactions to messages, use avatar stickers or send pictures.
Users can now report a bug by pressing the Meta button on their right touch controller five times in a row.
The Mobile ASW feature for Quest Link (PC VR streaming) has been temporarily disabled as a result of ongoing issues.
