A VR enthusiast shared an image on X that supposedly shows the final design of Meta’s Quest 3S VR headset scheduled for launch later in the year.

The user, Luna, shared an image of the headset for the second time on the X social media platform. His latest post is reportedly the final design of the headset. If you have been following the Quest 3S leaks over the past few weeks, the new images should be fairly familiar.

In the latest image, you can see the front cameras, the side-tracking cameras, the volume controls, and what is presumably a new “action button”. The latest images are consistent with the concept images of the headset that have been leaked so far and with a recent photo of the Quest 3S headset posted on the website of an accessories retailer.

An Action Button for Greater Convenience

Recently, Luna posted that a new button at the bottom of the Quest 3S headset is likely some kind of an “action button.”

The button is used to switch into the mixed reality passthrough mode in some OS versions.  In other versions, users still double-tap the headset to switch to the mode. Luna added that this button could be freely configurable in the future.

Luna also mentioned that, similar to the Pico 4, the Quest 3S will support audio only through USB-C and will not include a headphone jack.

This detail wasn’t visible in the leaked promotional material, but it now appears to be confirmed. A customizable action button, akin to those on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, would represent a significant convenience upgrade over the Quest 2.

The absence of a headphone jack is probably a cost-cutting measure. The downside is that you won’t be able to charge the Quest 3S and use headphones via USB-C simultaneously.

Quest 3S a Budget Alternative

In May, Luna leaked detailed specifications for the Quest 3S, highlighting its impressive price-performance ratio. The Meta Quest 3S is expected to be a budget-friendly headset, continuing the Quest 2’s legacy of affordability.

According to information that Luna has sourced from developers, the Quest 3S features the more powerful chipset found in the Quest 3, color passthrough, and the same ringless controllers, with software offering similar features. However, it makes some trade-offs with its display and lenses, which are expected to be the same as those on the Quest 2.
