Roblox May Come to Meta Quest Later in 2023
Roblox, a major metaverse platform is set to launch in the Meta Quest headset later in the year. The Verge reports that the metaverse platform will come to Quest in late 2023.
There have been past reports in the past about Roblox’s launch on Meta although this never materialized. In an investor call held in 2021, Roblox co-founder and CEO Dave Baszucki stated that the Quest headset made “perfect sense for Roblox”, perhaps hinting that the platform already had Quest in its horizons.
Roblox is compatible with various virtual reality headsets including HTC Vive and Oculus Rift but these require gamers to connect their VR-ready PCs to the virtual reality headsets to play. Until now, Roblox isn’t available as a Quest title. Should the metaverse platform get Quest support, this would be a major step for both Meta and Roblox.
If indeed Roblox is coming to Quest, this would also be great news for investors in both companies. Both Meta and Roblox have been posting dismal results lately. Meta stock price plunged by more than two-thirds in 2022 and both companies posted disappointing financial results last year. While Roblox lost $297.8 million, Meta’s VR division lost $3.67 billion. Meta is anticipating further losses in 2023.
In its earnings call, Meta confirmed that a successor to the Quest 2 headset will be launching in 2023. It is likely that Roblox might be a launch title in the Quest 3 headset that is set to launch later in the year.
The Meta Quest Pro headset was announced at the Meta Connect 2022 and there is a high probability that the Quest 3 headset will be announced at this year’s Connect conference in the fall. The new headset is expected to cost the same as the Quest 2 which goes for $500 following an August 2022 $100 price hike.
