VRClay – 3D Virtual Sculpting with Oculus Rift
Introducing mind blowing concepts and models all the time, virtual reality surprises us every other day. Recently, 3D VR developers designed a new immersive program that allows us to sculpt in virtual reality environment simply using our hands. The entertaining program is titled VRClay.
VRClay is compatible with Oculus Rift and Razer Hydra and we can indulge in sculpting using the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. VRClay is capable of being run on both DK1 and DK2. It offers a number of tools which you can utilize to create different designs such as build up, push, pull, drag and others.
VRClay incorporate handheld motion controllers Sixense Entertainment’s Razer Hydra with the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.
Earlier this year, a similar project dubbed MakeVR was released on Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign by Sixense but was cancelled a short time later. The 3D modeling application also allowed users to create thing within an immersive environment. However, with the introduction of VRClay from indie developer Vojtěch Krs, VR enthusiasts can now wallow in virtual sculpting once again. As shown in the video, VRClay lets you built different objects with the help of available tools using Razer Hyrda. In the beginning, there will be a huge glob of clay in the middle of the screen. With Razer Hyrda, you will be able to manipulate and build up the material by pushing, pulling, bending and dragging. Moreover, the users can walk in the empty space around them quite freely and change the direction and angle of the sculpture as they see fit. With some practice, you can transform the blob into a great work filled with intricate details. We don’t know how meticulous and scrupulous the application will be, but it does sound promising. The developers of VRClay have not announced the release date yet but we will keep a close check on any updates.
