nDreams Releases Gunner Demo for Samsung Gear VR
nDreams, a UK based company, was one of the first developers to support Gear VR, Samsung’s new virtual reality headset (HMD). The company is well-known for creating virtual reality video games with Oculus Rift headset for virtual reality support and has released several big games in the past. We were anticipating the release of “Gunner”, “Perfect Beach” and “The Assembly” for a very long time, and it looks our wait is somewhat over. nDreams recently released a demo for Gunner, a virtual reality arcade space shooting game, for Samsung Gear VR. Good thing they did because shooting games are never out of fashion!
Gunner demo is available for free download on their website and Oculus VR Share. The studio will release the full game once Oculus Rift is available for the consumers. Oculus VR is co-publishing the title which makes Gunner one of the very first releases for the company.
Although the game is pretty simple, the immersive environment can make anything super-exciting. The game takes place in distant future in the year of 2167. It is a first person game in which the gamer’s purpose is to put an end to the rebellion going on in the galaxy by shooting and fending off enemy’s spaceships. You are strapped to a giant motor ship from where you get to shoot down the other spaceships. You can gaze around 360 degrees in the game and thanks to the head-tracking capabilities of Gear VR, your aiming becomes great. We believe Gunner is like a fusion of The Last Starfighter film and a typical arcade game to some extent.
According to the company, one of the great things about Gunner is that it won’t make you puke. As the character is tied to the motor ship, the gamer won’t actually have to move. There is no need for controllers as you can go along the game simply by looking at things. You look at the menu to select a weapon, reload the gun by gazing and so on! In short, Gunner is really comfortable to play on a mobile phone.
