At Bat VR app is coming to Google Daydream
At Bat is a Major League Baseball’s streaming subscription service and also a downloadable application that adds an extra level of immersion to baseball games.
At Bat VR – Live Game Footage and Real-time Data
At Bat VR will deliver a highly immersive experience better than checking the app on your phone. It will provide live game footage from the center of the field and a 3D strike zone map below. Of course, it will have the statistics and relevant data on a side of the window.
The app will also feature behind-the-scenes video clips in 360-degree, but 360-degree game live streams won’t be available just yet. However, the MLB expects to live stream a full game in Virtual Reality before the year ends.
At Bat VR will launch on the Google Daydream platform on June 1st, and other VR platforms will follow in the near future. The app is free if you have an MLB At Bat subscription, and you will need a Premium subscription in order to watch live games.
Upgrading to virtual reality involves buying new expensive computers and headsets, but Jamie Leece, MLB’s Vice President of games and VR strategy claims that the field of view in Virtual Reality is equivalent to the largest HD screens available on the market but much less expensive and lighter.
