The Launch of Otherworld Interactive’s Café Âme
Café Âme is a short-form virtual video game created by Otherworld Interactive. The Spacewalk developers launched Café Âme on Oculus VR Share during the last week of September, 2014. The immersive game is compatible with the new DK2 Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

The game is currently available for free download on PC on Oculus VR Share. Since its foundation, Oculus VR Share keeps blowing us away with all kinds of immersive experiences, demos and games. Be it a virtual trip to the other side of the world, medical therapies, sculpting and crafting, an epic battle with robots or a simple and sweet game like Café Âme that introduces us to the universe of virtual reality, Oculus VR has never failed to surprise its fans.

Café Âme is one of a kind experiment in VR embodiment set in Café Âme in 1950s Paris, France. Although, the developers have not disclosed much information about the experience, Café Âme appears to be mystery drama story that follows first person narrative. It is a short-form story in which users play a character to discover who they are and solve the mystery. The immersive experience is rather comfortable, non-game and quite unique. With just two goals set in mind, ambience and embodiment, Otherworld Interactive has ended up designing a tranquil virtual environment that clearly manifests itself. Download the game from Oculus VR Share and succumb into a whimsical sprawl on the streets of Paris on a rainy night.

In the beginning of the game, you are sitting at a cafe in the nighttime. The cafe is closed and through the windows you can observe the rainy streets of Paris. Taking a look around, you will see that there is a steaming mug of coffee on your table, a ticking clock behind the counter, upside down chairs on the tables and other details. The first surprise comes when you look at your arms and see that are robotic. The second surprise comes when you look out the window and see the startling reflection. The experience is indeed very short and straightforward but evokes emotions and imagination.

The title fully supports the Oculus Rift’s second development kit and head mounted display. Currently, it is only available for PC with a keyboard and mouse input control with no news about Mac or Linux versions. The demo of Café Âme lasts for approximately 5 minutes. According to the people who have tried it, Café Âme is very different from other virtual experiences. There are no adrenaline-rushing gun fights, a sci-fi enigma or a psychological dilemma. Rather it has a subtle and serene atmosphere that will leave you wanting for more when the five minutes are over.
