War Thunder

Recently, there has been a big increase in the number of flight simulator games being launched for virtual reality enthusiasts.

Some of the most popular games include Elite: Dangerous, where players can explore through space in an aircraft along with many, many others that can be found at the Oculus VR Share website. A lot of the games uploaded on the Oculus Share website can be downloaded for PC and Mac absolutely free of charge.

Gaijin Entertainment launched a new video game in the flight simulator genre, which goes by the name of ‘War Thunder’. The game has been given full virtual reality support and is compatible with Oculus Rift’s headset. The developer has always been a big supporter of virtual reality and has claimed that he wants War Thunder to make full use of the latest technology available in VR. The developer has also mentioned adding support for the Sony Morpheus soon, along with other major updates.

War Thunder lets the players pilot the plane themselves – the plane being a very cool version from World War II. Players get to sit inside the cockpit and pilot the vehicle using the astounding number of gauges, levers and buttons spread out in front of them. In reality, the player can move his or her limbs and the movement will be translated into the game, making the player able to fly the plane as if he would in reality. War Thunder is a complete immersive experience that gives the users a full sensory knowledge of what it would feel like to pilot a World War II airplane. Gaijin Entertainment has added proper elite hardware to give War Thunder the best chance of being a complete flight simulation game using the HOTAS system and rudder pedals. Players can explore and look around their surroundings by just turning their head in one direction.

War Thunder has been given support for the second development kit by Oculus Rift (DK2) which enhances a lot of features in the game. The immersive experience is more impressive due to the positional tracking, and the increased resolution makes the graphics elevate to another level. There are still a few kinks waiting to be resolved by the developers but they claim that they will be working on War Thunder continuously to make it better and better in the coming year. Virtual Reality Times will keep following the progress of War Thunder and report back with any further details.
