Apocalyptic City

The best part about launching virtual reality is that it gives normal people a chance to experience places they’d never in a million years be able to think about otherwise.

Gamers and travel enthusiasts can explore places and virtual worlds that are stunningly rich in detail and seem almost real. These amazing experiences can only be accessed through virtual reality – or a limitless bank account. One of these spectacular places has been created by indie developer Slluxx; a game that goes by the name of ‘Apocalyptic City’. Apocalyptic City is a thrilling game based in virtual reality that can be downloaded for free (at the moment). The game has been given full support for Oculus Rift’s headset, the first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2, respectively).

Apocalyptic City revolves around a huge place full of towering buildings in extreme disrepair; the walls are crumbling, everything seems set in a permanent state of decay and the overall mood appears depressed and hopeless. Trees and bushes have shot up everywhere in between the buildings, on rooftops and on the roads. It seems as if nature is slowly taking over the concrete jungle of the city. Players can walk around the area at their own pace, and explore the entire area. They cannot enter the buildings but can take in the sights and walk around as much of the city as is shown in the game. The developers have done a great job of creating such a dramatic, richly enhanced environment for the game.

Slluxx – the developing team – has declared this only an initial look at Apocalyptic City; they are planning on adding many major updates to make the game really stand out among others in relevant genres. The developers have recently a “night time version” in the game, using the same setting as in the day. Other features are being added slowly: one of them being a flashlight to be used in the night version of Apocalyptic City. The creators have said that they intend to make Apocalyptic City one of the scariest games available and will do their best to frighten the players – in an entertaining way of course.

Right now, there has been no news about when further updates will be added and whether the game will be revealed as a full feature or not. But the developers have asked the fans to stay patient and wait for the newer version, which they promise will be highly entertaining. Virtual Reality Times will keep following the progress of Apocalyptic City and will report back with all further details.
