The popular virtual reality hit Vader Immortal game mode Lightsaber Dojo is set to be unveiled in some select arcade-style VR locations. This is happening just in time for The Rise of Skywalker.

Vader Immortal Lightsaber Dojo

Lightsaber Dojo is an arcade-style virtual reality experience. It’s an insanely fun lightsaber training ground simulator which comes as part of the Vader Immortal- A Star Wars VR Series. The game mode will now get arcade releases for some select pop-locations from December 19th.

ILMxLAB is opting for a secondary distribution to go with the theatrical release of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkers.

The distribution in the VR arcades will be available in the US to visitors in some select shopping centers and cinemas. Visitors will put on an Oculus Quest headset and use either a lightsaber or power forces on waves of opponents in the dojo. ILMxLAB talks of expanding the series.

Audiences in Vader Immortal are able to feel what it’s like to fight with a lightsaber in virtual reality. With new Lightsaber Dojo experience, ILMxLAB hopes to fulfill the wishes of more of its fans.

Players in Lightsaber Dojo can use the lightsaber as well as the Force to slice, stun or crush their enemies. For Star Wars fans, this is like a dream come true and it gets more exciting when you are competing against friends.

The Lightsaber Dojo was released in May this year as an extension of Vader Immortal- A Star Wars VR Series- Episode 1. The Dojo enables players to battle head-to-head with waves of baddies, beasts and bots while using only a lightsaber as well as their Jedi wits for their protection.

Over the three-part series of the game, the game mode of the Vader Immortal has become more robust due to the addition of new Force abilities, enemies, lightsaber options and environmental traps.

It is still not apparent whether the standalone arcade release will be similar to the one for the Rift, Rift S and Quest. ILMxLAB has however stated that players will still be able to use the Force to trigger traps, grab their enemies and throw the lightsabers so the experience might be similar to the one which was featured in Episode III. Before immersing yourself in the action, you have to choose from a variety of blades including the ones for Darth Vader, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Lightsaber Dojo will be powered by the Quest headset and the experience will go for $10 for every 6 minutes of play. The price is quite steep if you consider the fact that the full Vader Immortal experience also costs the same. If you are hyped up about the Vader Immortal experience and don’t have your own virtual reality headset, then the experience will be worth it.

The experience will be available in some pop-up locations at the following Simon Centers and Cinemark Theaters from December 19th:

Simon Centers

  • Ontario Mills in Ontario, CA
  • Grapevine Mills in Grapevine, TX
  • Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, CA
  • The Mills at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth, NJ

Cinemark Theaters

  • Century Cinema 16 at Mountain View, CA
  • Century Huntington Beach and XD in Huntington Beach, CA

Main Income for VR Market Coming from VR Arcades

ILMxLAB is implementing the arcade project in collaboration with Nomadic. Nomadic was founded in 2015 and is focused on the provision of modular virtual reality arcades which can be installed very quickly in cinemas and shopping centers with little effort. The startup also operates its own arcades.

It’s not clear the extent to which Lightsaber Dojo will be rolled out in various arcades. Initially, there will be the six arcades listed above. Players will even be able to enter their results on a leaderboard and compare these against those of other players.

According to the virtual reality startup Survios, the virtual reality arcade content business is currently more lucrative than the home VR market. The arcade market is growing three times faster than the home market.
