Fan-Made Pokémon VR Game Now Available on Quest in Alpha
A group of fans came together and created a Pokémon VR game that has now been released in alpha on Oculus Quest. The unofficial fan-made Pokémon VR game has all the features of Pokémon up to generation 7.
The game is currently available in alpha preview so it is still in the early days. At the moment, it can be sideloaded to Quest. However, as Android Central reports, Nintendo has had a history of quickly taking down fan-made games so the game probably won’t last long. Time to enjoy it before it is yanked off Quest. In 2016, Nintendo shut down Pokémon Uranium which had millions of downloads at the time.
Even the game’s developers recognize this is a real possibility. According to Android Central, which was in touch with one of the developers, the Pokémon VR game took four months to develop to its present form. The game currently has over 791 Pokémon and has included every Pokémon from gen 1 all the way to gen 7.
Possibility of Retooling Game to Sidestep Likely Nintendo Takedown
Should Nintendo proceed with the takedown or forces its developers to stop working on the game, the team reportedly has a plan B for Pokémon VR. The contact says they will comply with the Nintendo takedown but will also reskin all the creatures, maps and characters and rework the branding of the game.
The team is also planning to set up a Kickstarter project to help them fund the remaking of the entire game. According to the contact, developing the game took a lot of time and effort and they, presumably, aren’t just going to give it up.
The developer says the project was driven by passion. He’s a big Pokémon fan, has professional development skills and got the idea of a Pokémon VR after a visit to Japan.

Acquiring Pokémon VR
To acquire the unofficial fan-made Pokémon, users must join Pokémon VR Discord where they will get the download links. The file size is roughly 1GB.
Users must also download SideQuest. This is a cross-platform application used in sideloading games into the Quest headset. To download SideQuest, visit https://sidequestvr.com. If you run into difficulties, check out the SideQuest tutorials on how to set up the application on Oculus Quest.
Once you have installed SideQuest on your computer, proceed and install the APK on your Oculus Quest headset. Under ‘Library’, click on the game title and then on ‘Unknown Sources’. This will take you into the Pokémon VR universe!
The gameplay for this VR version is similar to that of the old N64 Pokémon Snap. However, you will still have to fight opponents who come to challenge you. Because the game is still in Alpha, expect to grapple with some bugs. However, it has impeccable graphics and impressive gameplay. It is even possible to voice-chat when you are playing Pokémon VR.
Check out the Pokémon VR discord for additional information on the game including download links.
