Latest Snapchat Filters Transform the Floor into Lava
With Snapchat’s latest AR filters, you can conjure realistic-looking lava flows or floods.
The latest batch of Immersive Snapchat Lenses enable you to drastically change the ground around you. Known as “Ground Transformation Lenses”, these filters can transform your ground into lava pit or water when you point your transform camera at the floor. The Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning) algorithm will identify and segment the floor, replacing the asphalt, carpet or parquet with a bubbling lava flow or flood.
The Machine Learning algorithm also applies the special effects like the buildings or environment around you which is reflected in the water. There is yellow sign that is correctly projected into the world and which warns you of the risk of slipping.
The Ground Transformation Lenses are the latest sign that snap is continuing to invest in its AR filters and expanding these to the real-world objects. In April 2019, Snap unveiled photo effects that transform the landmarks into animated objects. The latest lenses now transform the ground.
Snap’s preliminary goal is likely to create machine-readability of the world or surrounding environment which would make all objects digitally transformable.
So far, Snap has focused on the faces and produced some really impressive lenses that can transform faces drastically such as aging them or making them look younger in a matter of seconds.
Most Snapchat Users are Experimenting with Augmented Reality
Snapchat’s latest lenses were created using an in-house version of its proprietary Augmented Reality development platform, the Lens Studio, which is to be released at a later date.
Snapchat’s AR effects are a fundamental part of the social media app. Based on Snap’s internal statistics, approximately three-quarters of Snapchat users are interested in Augmented Reality. Daily active users interact with AR filters about 30 times per day.
To try out the new apps, go through the following procedure:-
- Open the Snapchat app and switch to the camera mode if it is not already active.
- Switch from the selfie to the world view by touching on the double arrow symbol found in the top right part.
- Click on the smiley to the right of the camera in order to trigger and also open the filter selection.
- Point your smartphone camera to the floor and select either the lava flow or flood filters. These are found to the left of the standard filter.
