Anyone Can Now Purchase HoloLens 2 Directly from Microsoft Online Store
Regular (non-enterprise) customers in the U.S. can now purchase Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 directly from Microsoft’s online store.
The Augmented Reality headset was previously only available for purchase for enterprise customers. Businesses had to contact Microsoft first before they placed an order for the mixed reality headset. That has changed now and anyone with cash can now order it without passing through the frustrating hoops. Before, buyers had to either contact an official reseller of the product or enlist in Microsoft’s special developers’ program. Now you can simply purchase the headset straightway.
The Microsoft HoloLens 2 is the tech company’s second enterprise Augmented Reality headset and began shipping in late last year. Microsoft now enables U.S. customers to place an online order for the AR headset via the Microsoft Store less than a year later.
At launch, the HoloLens 2 headset was targeted at the enterprise-level use-cases and customers and was priced at $3,500. This price was $1,000 more than its closest competitor Magic Leap One Creator Edition. To acquire the headset, enterprise buyers had to get in touch with Microsoft first in order to discuss the purchase options.
From the U.S. Microsoft website, anyone can now buy the device right off the HoloLens webpage. You simply add the product to the cart and proceed to order. As of today, Microsoft is offering buyers a 2-day express shipping for the AR headset so once you place an order, the headset will arrive on your doorstep in no time.
Customers purchasing the AR headset still have to fork out $3,500 for the HoloLens 2 headset as well as various other replacement accessories such as the carrying case, straps, forehead pads that come in a variety of sizes as well as a USB-C charger. All of these will ship in a box. However, you are still able to purchase a spare should you need it.
The purchase option is only available to online customers so you won’t be finding a HoloLens 2 headset in a brick-and-mortar Microsoft Store.
The fact that the headset is now available for purchase does not necessarily mean that it is coming packed with plenty of consumer-facing apps.
Specs-wise, the HoloLens 2 is a solid AR headset. It offers various industry-leading features previously not found in the HoloLens 1 such as eye tracking. The eye tracking functionality enables users to choose the UI elements by just looking at them. This also enables developers to know the direction in which the user is looking in order to better optimize their AR apps based on user behavior.
Visit Microsoft website to place an order for the HoloLens 2 headset.
