Anker Launches First Third-Party Quest 2 Charging Dock
Ordinarily, you will have your Oculus Quest 2 headset sitting on your desk and being charged via a cable when not in use. A Chinese company has now come up with a more convenient charging dock for your headsets and controllers.
The China-based electronics manufacturer Anker Innovations, a global leader in consumer electronics and mobile charging, launched a docking station last week which is optimized to charge both the Oculus Quest 2 headset and the Touch Controllers. This docking station will simplify the topping up of your headset and controller batteries, enabling you to easily charge both in no time.
The charging dock can be purchased at Oculus.com, Amazon and Anker.com for $86.99.
It is perfect for charging your VR gear after long playing stations and provides users with a more convenient option of keeping their Quest 2 headset and Touch controllers charged.
A Convenient Option
The Anker Charging Dock has been designed for super convenience. The Oculus Quest 2 headset is put on the Anker Charging Dock upon which the magnetic USB-C connector snaps into place for an easy and quick charging process.
Once you have inserted the rechargeable battery and swapped out the battery covers, all you have to do is pop the Touch controllers into the left and the right side of the charging dock for the charging process to begin.
The dock features two replacement 1800mAh alkaline rechargeable batteries for the Quest 2 controllers that only ship with non-reusable batteries. According to Anker, the docking station can charge your devices in about two and a half hours.
The first shipments of the Anker Charging Dock are already out of stock but you can still find pre-orders that ship on January 22nd.
The charging dock serves a dual function. Apart from rapidly charging your headset it also serves as a rest for the Quest 2 headset when it is not in use. Both the controllers and the headset will charge in just two hours.
The Specifications of the Charging Dock
- 0V/9.0V DC USB-C input
- Features a magnetic USB-C Output: 5.0V/3.0A, 9.0V/2.0A
- Two rechargeable 1.2V/1800mAh batteries for the Touch controllers
- Two 1.8V/0.9A Controller Charging Ports
The charging dock is certainly an innovative solution but if you are looking for some quick fix for charging your controller, you can use rechargeable AA batteries along with a battery charger for the Oculus Quest 2 controllers. These are convenient as you can always use them with or without the Anker charging dock.
However, the charging dock provides an all-in-one VR charging option that many heavy-duty VR users will find appealing.
