HTC to Reveal “Game-Changing VR Headsets” at VIVECON
HTC’s approaching VIVECON event will be held online on May 11th and 12th. On its new website, the company has promised to reveal “game-changing VR headsets” as well as presentations from “industry partners, strategic partners, and special guests.” The company will reveal at least two virtual reality headsets on the first day, according to the event program.
From the statement, HTC is continuing to promise “next-level VR” that it had mentioned early this year.
HTC has been teasing an unnamed upcoming virtual reality headset for the past month. The tech giant has now confirmed that the headset will be revealed at the VIVECON event this month. According to the description on the ViveCon website, it appears the company will reveal more than one virtual reality headset. Two renderings have also appeared on Twitter this week showing excerpts of the VR headset technology.
The full VIVECON schedule is yet to be posted at the time of writing but it looks like the keynote will happen on May 11th at 9 am PT. The event will be free and registrations are already open. HTC stated that registrants will be emailed additional details, likely the full schedule and where to watch it, as the event nears.
Not much is known at the moment regarding the kind of VR headset that HTC plans to reveal. A Twitter tease accompanied by the text “let’s get down to business” precipitated speculations that the headset could be enterprise-focused.
The second day of the event on May 12th will revolve around the use of XR in industry, another indication that the new Vive devices could be enterprise-focused.
HTC revealed its Vive Proton headset in early 2020. This is a prototype compact standalone virtual reality headset. Not much has been heard about this new headset since then. The designs the company has been teasing for the past month don’t appear to resemble the Vive Proton design that HTC unveiled last year. It is still possible that the Vive Proton designs could have changed over the past year.
The event will cover several categories including remote work, VR training, collaboration, use of VR in the health sector, 3D visualization, location-based entertainment (LBE)/arts as well as development, specifically for Vive.
