FundamentalVR Takes its Surgical Simulation to the Next Level
FundamentalVR is expanding is VR surgical simulation platform and incorporating new procedures as well as a new scoring system which has been integrated with its HapticVR technology. The system provides new opportunities to help train surgeons around the world with the help of the FundamentalVR platform.
The FundamentalVR platform allows surgeons to train in VR environments that are highly realistic complete with haptic gloves.
Fundamental Surgery uses a combination of high-quality virtual reality surgery experiences and realistic haptic feedback that is delivered via a pencil-shaped peripheral which simulates the touch pressure surgeons feel when they are performing actual real-life surgeries on skin, bones and various other parts of the human anatomy. The realism of the haptic feedback is superb and the rendering is extremely realistic making this one of the best virtual tools for surgical training.
Now the company has announced that it is set to expand the range of simulation on offer in FundamentalVR to include a new Facetectomy procedure on the vertebrae and the decompression of spinal nerve roots.

According to FundamentalVR, this new feature will allow surgeons and trainees to practice the surgical technique via an immersive and self-directed training experience where the trainee or surgeon can surgically remove the volume of the bone material piece-by-piece on any part of the joint. The facetectomy procedure will also utilize the eye-tracking functionality that was implemented into the Fundamental Surgery platform not so long ago.
Like in the previous procedures, the facetectomy procedure has very realistic and gruesome-looking graphics. Fundamental Surgery provides one of the best applications of virtual reality in healthcare.
Apart from the new surgical procedure, FundamentalVR has also incorporated a new scoring system into the platform. The new scoring system debuts in the Facetectomy procedure. The scoring system will give trainees a percentage score for every session which will be based on how well the trainee is realizing the objectives set for the procedure. The VR healthcare startup hopes that these procedures will also help facilitate independent learning.
