Fast Travel Games Opens a VR Publishing Arm
Fast Travel Games is adding a new publishing arm to its business. Like in many of its games, the focus will be on virtual reality.
The new publishing arm will be headed by Patrick Liu who has more than 15 years of experience in the industry and was until recently Mojang Studios head of games.
According to the Swedish studio’s co-founder and CEO Oskar Burman, Fast Travel Games plans to look “quite broadly across genres” as the studio itself has been building different types of games in the past. Burman says Fast Travel Games is looking for games that have been built ground up for virtual reality and which are using the advantages of the virtual reality medium as the studio has seen these types of games work really well with its audience. Burman says the studio is interested in games that have “strong retention” which could be played for 100 hours plus, such as multiplayer games.
Fast Travel Games expects the virtual reality market to grow over the coming years and its move into VR publishing could put it in a good stead to take full advantage of this growing market.
According to Burman, every game that his studio has launched sold faster than the previous one which is a good sign of a “larger addressable audience”. He said that Oculus had been instrumental in the studio’s success and accounted for most of its revenues in spite of the fact that PSVR has been its largest platform. Oskar believes the upcoming next-generation VR for PS5 along with possible Apple and Valve hardware play will contribute to the further growth of the market in the coming years.
