HTC has said that it is looking into possible laptop and iPhone support for its upcoming Vive Flow virtual reality headset although these won’t be included at launch.

At the moment, a user must connect their Android smartphone to the Flow through a native app. This enables the user to control experiences with their handsets serving as the motion controller just as in the Oculus Go or Gear VR. It also enables a user to use Miracast to bring their phone’s screen and features into virtual reality from where the user can watch either Netflix or YouTube.

However, HTC has stated that iPhone doesn’t provide Miracast support which means that for possible iPhone uses, a crucial usage feature would be absent and it will every hard to find a workaround for this.

However, with the iPhone as a controller, and even without a Miracast, users can still access the library of native apps that HTC has prepared for the Vive Flow headset, including the meditative experiences like Nature Treks VR as well as some of the simpler gaming content. The basic functionality might be available for iPhone in the future.

HTC also revealed that it is exploring possible PC connections via a laptop although it won’t be focusing on this at launch.

The Vive Flow is an impressive device. It weighs just 189 grams and can be worn comfortably over extended periods of time. Pre-orders have already been launched and the device is set to begin shipping in early November.
