The 1920s British gangster TV series Peaky Blinders is getting a Virtual Reality adaptation.

In Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, you will join a notorious criminal gang in Birmingham’s underworld, earn the trust of the gangster brothers Tommy and Arthur Shelby, and prove that you have the mettle to operate in one of the most powerful and notorious British gangs. This dark gangster adventure is set to arrive on the Quest platform later in the year.

In Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, you will be fulfilling orders and interacting with others from the crime series, including the Shelby brothers. The brothers are voiced by the original actor Paul Murphy and Cillian Anderson.

The officially licensed version of the TV show Peaky Blinders was first announced in 2019 by the British developer Maze Theory (of Doctor Who: The Edge of Time fame). The VR adaptation offers fans of the crime series an opportunity to step right into the crime drama. The developer has cited several release windows but last week, the team revealed a new trailer confirming 2022 as its launch year.

The Virtual Reality game will likely stick very close to the template TV show. Maze Theory worked closely with the production team behind the TV series. However, players should also meet and get to acquaint themselves with new characters.

Believable Characters

As a gang member, you will be visiting familiar locations from the series such as Garrison Pub, Charlie’s Yard, and Shelby’s Betting Shop, experiencing cinematic moments, and making moral decisions that have an impact on the plot.

The game was first announced in 2019 and now you can see its first scenes thanks to the first trailer released last week. The scenery looks atmospheric and is suited for the series. However, there is no gameplay, yet. Maze Theory CEO Ian Hambleton says fans will get access to believable and responsive characters from Peaky Blinders while also coming face-to-face with Tommy Shelby and experiencing some really terrifying situations.

According to previous announcements, the game will use Artificial Intelligence that will enable digital characters to react to your voice and body language. The characters will be responsive, according to the studio which would be interesting as we haven’t experienced something like this in VR in this format.

Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom will be released this year. Only Quest has been confirmed as the target platform so far. The last Virtual Reality game from Maze Theory, Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, was released for most of the popular virtual reality headset.
