From trademark filings, it appears HTC’s new headset is the Vive XR Elite.

From trademark filings, it is now apparent that the headset that HTC has been teasing is the Vive XR Elite. Last month, The Verge reported that the headset would go head-on with Meta’s new high-end work-focused headset Quest Pro.

The trademark filing for Vive XR Elite as well as a web listing and images that were shared online are seemingly showing the headset’s full design. The listing shows pricing in South Korean currency which converts to $1400. This is almost the same price as the Quest Pro headset which retails at $1500.

The Verge previously published details of the headset that were shared by a source and which suggested the headset would have two hours of battery life. The details also showed the headset supports tracked controllers and hand tracking. It will be a standalone headset, not relying on a PC or smartphone. It can optionally be connected to a gaming PC, enabling it to stream PC VR games through a cable or Wi-Fi like the Quest and Pico headsets.

The Vive XR Elite headset also has four black and white cameras and a central RGB camera to provide mixed reality function with a color passthrough. HTC’s teases suggest the passthrough is sufficient for reading text on a phone or laptop screen and that the headset also has a depth sensor. The Quest Pro headset did away with this key piece of hardware a few months before the headset’s launch. The depth sensor on the Vive XR Elite will allow for easier room scanning. Meta is, however, working on automatic room scanning even without the requirement of an extra sensor.

Latest Vive XE Elite images seen to show diopter dials for every lens which will come in handy for users needing prescription optics for clearer pictures without having to install an extra piece of hardware.
