New Pico Firmware Update Adds More Improvements
Pico is introducing its most extensive firmware update yet for the Pico 4 device. What enhancements and novel features are included in the Pico OS 5.7.0 version?
Pico 4 has been available for ten months now, primarily in Europe and several other countries, with its release in the dominant US VR market, still awaiting.
Meanwhile, Pico is making adjustments to the VR headset’s firmware, with the Pico OS 5.7.0 update introducing the following features and advancements:
Hand Tracking is Now More Accurate and More Stable
Pico has enhanced the algorithms handling hand tracking and finger tracking. This improvement has led to a reduction in the virtual hand’s jitter, resulting in more precise and consistently stable hand-tracking performance.
Spatial Tracking is Better in Dark and Large Rooms
Pico has enhanced the 6DoF algorithms as well. The reduction of tracking inconsistencies in dimly lit and large spaces, as well as during moments when the head is still, is now evident. Moreover, the boundary now shows less drifting when the user re-enters the play area.
Sharper PC VR Streaming Thanks to Filters
Individuals who are not utilizing Virtual Desktop can now access a sharpness filter within Pico’s standard software, enabling adjustment of the sharpness level from 0 to 100 percent. Additionally, enhancements have been made to the controller haptics of PC VR streaming.
Updates are Automatic
When the screen is inactive and the device battery holds a charge exceeding 50%, the system automatically undertakes firmware updates and initiates a system reboot. This process obviates the necessity for manual updates.
New Options for Recording
You now have the choice to capture VR content in a vertical orientation with a 9:16 aspect ratio, ideal for sharing videos on social platforms. This setting offers enhanced resolution and frame rates of 24 and 36 FPS respectively. Additionally, image stabilization is automatically enabled, and you can instantly view your recorded content without the need to navigate to the file manager.
Improved Picture Quality in the Video Player
It has been reported that the video player now offers a notably more distinct image quality.
Bankcard Scanning Feature
The latest firmware update introduces a highly distinctive feature: the ability to employ passthrough mode for scanning credit card information. This innovation spares you the inconvenience of manual number input.
Additional Improvements
Pico has enhanced both browser performance and the user interface, making improvements here and there. In addition to addressing various bugs, enhancements have been made to system performance and stability.
