VRChat Dropping Quest 1 Support After June 30
VRChat is finally set to drop Quest 1 support after June 30.
In a new developer update, VRChat attributes the move to the “deprecation of the Quest 1 SDK” by Meta which will prevent the virtual reality app from being properly updated on the device.
Several other virtual reality titles have also dropped support for Meta first Quest headset, including Onward, Zenith: The Last City, Myst, and Synth Riders. All of these titles announced in the past few months that they were dropping Quest 1 support, all attributing their moves to Meta decision to end Quest 1 support in 2023.
In its developer update, VRChat stated that it was ending support for Meta Quest 1 and that tickets raised with its User Support team on Quest 1 will be informed that the app was no longer supporting the HMD and, as a result, VRChat won’t be in a position to provide assistance to those who will still be using the headset. In its update, VRChat says that the Meta Quest 1 headset may stop working completely “any time after June 30th.”
VRChat has previously announced its plans to end its support for Meta Quest 1 in its April 13th developer update. In that update, it hadn’t provided a specific end date for Quest 1 support although it gave a timeline of “within the next 3 to 6 months.”
The developer advises that users with a gaming PC will still be able to use the Meta Quest 1 headset to play the PC VR version of the title via Quest Link, Virtual Desktop, ALVR as well as “those other tethering methods.” It, however, notes that those applications may also begin deprecating Meta Quest 1 HMD and users should note their announcements and new posts.”
