Minecraft Earth is currently available for both Android and iOS devices. Just like in the popular AR hit Pokemon Go, users in this game can use their smartphone’s camera to overlay the Minecraft world onto their real-world surroundings. The title is free-to-play and in spite of the huge anticipation, it has been slow to roll out across the world during its early access phase. It launched in Iceland and New Zealand in October. To date, the game has been downloaded a total of 2.5 million times.

We are, still, technically in the early access phase of the game so stacking it up against other mobile AR launches in the U.S. such as Pokemon Go is not a fair comparison. During its first week, Pokemon Go dug up a whopping 32.7 million installs in the U.S. in just the first week. In comparison, the other mobile AR hit game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite notched up 3.1 million downloads in the country within the first week of its launch.

The normal version of Minecraft has sold more than 176 million copies making one of the most successful games in history.
