The title is now available on both Quest and Quest 2 headsets and provides standalone VR players a rather exhilarating melee combat experience, one of the best of such experiences at the moment.

GORN was originally released on PC VR headsets in 2017. The over-the-top gladiator simulator pits the player against waves of wobbly muscle men in a blood-soaked and free-for-all combat with various brutal melee weapons including knives, war hammers, axes and nunchuks. Players can even immerse themselves in the good old-fashioned hand-to-hand combat and even rip their enemies apart limb for limb before they use these body parts against their opponents. GORN sounds gory but it is actually a comical experience due, in part, to the cartoon art style of the game, the many ridiculous encounters and the humorous animations.

The standalone Quest port, of course, packs in all the content that fans already know and love from GORN’s original and critically-acclaimed release. This time, of course, it will be without the cable.

The standalone wireless gameplay may look like a small upgrade but players who have played the sim through a tethered PC headset have often complained about how inconveniencing a cable can be, particularly in the midst of a heated combat.

GORN involves a lot of movement as the player is constantly being surrounded by enemies. The wireless functionality of Quest provides players with a new layer of freedom in the experience and enables them to comfortably swing their rubber-like weapons in any direction they wish to as they cut down wave after wave of the bouncing bad guys.

An VRScout reviewer of the game describes the Quest port as “the definitive version of the game.” However, players will see some noticeable downgrades in the visuals although this won’t have an impact on the overall quality of the game.

You can grab GORN on Quest/Quest 2 for $19.99. The title is also available on Oculus Rift/Rift S, PlayStation VR and SteamVR.
