Cybershoes provides a lower-cost locomotion option. In combination with cyberchair and cybercarpet (included), it allows gamers to walk and run in VR. Cybershoes is compatible with various Steam games and has lately added Quest games The Wizards-Dark Times and In Death: Unchained.

The Oculus Quest-compatible Cybershoes version was successfully funded on Kickstarter in late 2020. It has since been directly available from creators for the past few months. Now the Cybershoes for Quest is available to buyers via Amazon US at a slightly discounted price.

Cybershoes provides a rather unconventional VR locomotion method for users. Rather than deploying the more common stick-based locomotion, teleportation, or through standing and sliding around some slick parabolic base in a VR treadmill, Cybershoes provides a seated experience where the user needs to slide a pair of shoe-mounted devices backward and forward so as to stimulate the act of running or walking in a game. Cybershoes works on the concept of providing users with a physical way of providing virtual locomotion input that in turn helps combat motion sickness. As weird a sit sounds, Cybershoes actually works.

The company has now released the latest Cybershoes wireless model retailing for $350 on Amazon US. It supports Oculus Quest 2, Oculus Quest as well as the SteamVR headsets. The locomotion device costs $455 when it is purchased directly from Cybershoes but it is generously discounted on Amazon.

The Cybershoes Amazon shipment includes a pair of Cybershoes (batteries included), a 60” round carpet, a swivel-style Cyberchair, an AC Adapter, a wireless receiver alongside all the needed cables. The package does not include a virtual reality headset.

At the moment, Cybershoes for Quest provides support for only a few VR titles such as Arizona Sunshine, MYST, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, The Wizards Dark Times, In Death Unchained, Journey of the Gods, and VRChat among others.

The company also stated that full integration and optimization for other virtual reality titles will be coming soon. These will include titles such as Ancient Dungeon, QuestZDoom (a mod that brings the classic Doom games into Quest), and RTCWQuest (a virtual reality mod for the classic Return to Castle Wolfenstein).

Cybershoes is also said to support over 60 PC VR titles through SteamVR. A list of the compatible and tested PC VR titles is available on this company Google Spreadsheet.
