Acer’s Predator Gaming PCs Are Built For VR
Computers are keeping up with the demands of virtual reality, as high-end headsets such as the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive need powerful machines to deliver the best VR experiences possible. Taiwanese PC manufacturer Acer has unveiled its Predator line of gaming machines, equipped with hardware specs needed to run VR smoothly.
First up is the portable Predator G1 gaming desktop which comes with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X graphics, the sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor and up to 64GB of RAM. It also comes with up to 512GB SSD plus a 4TB HDD for fast and voluminous internal storage.
Acer is marketing the Predator G1 as a portable machine with a battery life of up to three hours, but its weight of 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds) might deter users who are looking for both ease of mobility and power.
Despite its weight, the Predator G1 is slick, slim and small enough that if users are forced to carry it around it won’t be too much of a burden.
The Predator G1 will be arriving in China first starting next month, while North America and Europe will get it in June. The Predator G1 comes with a starting price of $2,799. The first 1,000 people to pre-order the Predator G1 will also be getting a 20-inch suitcase as a portability accessory.
Another one in the Predator line-up is the Acer Predator 17X gaming laptop which comes with a massive 17-inch display. Users have the option to pick up the full HD 1080p screen or the 4K resolution screen.
The Predator 17X impresses with an Intel Core 17 processor that’s capable of being over-clocked to up to 4Ghz. It is also very distinct for having a desktop graphics card with the NVIDIA GTX 980, instead of the usual NVIDIA M line GPU that’s found on other gaming laptops.
It also comes with a tri-fan cooling system and air intake up front, so users can go on gaming without worrying about overheating.
Probably the best thing about the Predator 17X is that it’s ready for virtual reality gaming, which is the same case with the Predator G1.
Acer says that both the Predator G1 and 17X will be able to support the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, OSVR and StarVR.
The Predator 17X gaming laptop starts at $2,799. Price will go up depending on configuration.
