Ford VR Lets You Live Le Mans In Virtual Reality
Ford Motors is probably one of the oldest car companies in the entire world, but it’s definitely not outdated when it comes to face the future and the new technologies available. The manufacturer launched a VR app for smartphones that shows the astounding new Ford GT and the way it performed at Le Mans.
Ford VR App is Ford’s First Approach Into Virtual Reality
You can already download this app from the Google Play Store if you have an Android device, they are compatible with the Google Cardboard. In case you have an iPhone you will be able to download it from Apple’s App Store. Ford is reportedly working to bring the VR experience to the Samsung Gear VR in the near future, and probably other VR headsets too.
According to Ford, the Ford VR app will feature mostly 360-degree videos that you will be able to enjoy through VR headsets, but they are also available on many other platforms and media players. You can even watch it from your computer from YouTube.
A Lot Of VR Videos Coming Soon To The Ford VR App
So far there is only one video in the Ford VR App, but you can expect an entire load of new virtual reality content coming in the next weeks. In the meantime, you can experience the first and only release so far. The short 360-degree video will take you to a tour around the pits and behind the wheel of a magnificent Ford GT during the 24 hours of the Le Mans challenge. This is only the beginning, according to Ford.
For those that are patient enough, the Ford VR App is promising to bring more of its thrilling content. The only video it has right now will be accompanied by a series of interesting VR content taken from the World Rallycross; where you will be able to witness Andreas Bakkerud and Ken Block racing in a Focus RSRX.
The Ford GT Is 50 Years Old Already
The Ford VR App launch is also a way for Ford to remind fans of the motor sports its most recent triumph in the toughest and most demanding endurance race of Le Mans. The new 2016 Ford GT finished 1-3-4. Almost repeating the incredible result of 1966, when Ford finished 1-2-3 with a Ford GT40 Mk II at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
From 1966 to 1969 Ford won at Le Mans four consecutive times thanks to its Ford GT40, and that’s why it is one of the most admired and respected race cars of from those times.
