Fox Sports and LiveLike VR Brings the Super Bowl LI to VR

VR video production company LiveLike VR along with Fox Sports will broadcast at least 20 virtual reality highlights from the Super Bowl LI via the Fox Sports VR app. Each quarter one highlight will be uploaded to the app for all to see, there will also be prepared VR videos for pre and post-game.

“The touchdowns, the epic plays are what we are going to be looking for”

Said LiveLike CEO, Andre Lorenceau.

Up to six cameras will be placed in Houston’s NRG Stadium to capture the game in full 4K resolution for VR videos. There will be cameras in the 50-yard line, the press box view right above the field, each of the end zones, and two cart cameras moving around the field. This enables viewers to change vantage points anytime during the highlights by tapping the camera icons displayed on the screen. If you have the Fox Sports app installed you will receive push notifications every time a new highlight is available.

The Best of the Super Bowl in Virtual Reality

Fox Sports has already streamed sports events and college football games in Virtual Reality before, but nothing compares to the importance that represents the NFL and, especially, the Super Bowl LI.

“We’ve never really done real-time highlights, which is a pretty big deal.”

LiveLike Chief Business Officer Miheer Walavalkar said.

But the company feels optimistic about the challenge that represents uploading the highlights in VR.

“We are on the verge of having a minor breakthrough in cutting our time down significantly”

Said Lorenceau

This is not the first time that the NFL uses Virtual Reality highlights to immerse its viewers, they have done it for the entire 2016 season. VR production companies such as Voke VR and NextVR made VR highlights that last up to 10 minutes for seven NFL games and people loved it.
