Haouli LLC Develops Innovative Tracking Technology

Hauoli claims to have created a motion tracking system that can be used for Virtual Reality applications. The company develops this system using its ample experience in motion tracking solutions that already exist for other uses like VR video games, wearables, drones, and cars.

Cars use motion tracking systems for blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, and even vehicle tracking in some of Tesla’s new vehicles. These vehicles use sound-wave technologies or SONAR systems, Hauoli claims it could work for VR.

Lili Qui, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin and Hauoli’s co-founder focuses her research on mobile computing and wireless networking. Professor Qui has discovered through her research an acoustic-based tracking technique, which accurately tracks hands and other dexterous implements with no need for extra hardware.

Both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive need infrastructure and hardware to enable players to interact with the virtual reality environment, but Hauoli intends to do it with sound. You won’t be able to hear the sound, but the computer system in your headset and maybe other devices will.

Hauoli is still in its early stage of development, but it looks quite promising with many potential applications for simplifying Virtual Reality systems with wireless capabilities.
