Amazon Planning To Open Augmented Reality Stores
Amazon seems to be exploring the possibility of appliance and furniture stores with a tech touch. You would use AR or VR to see how items would look at home. This would make it easier for clients to make the decision on whether or not buy new fancy items for their homes. Amazon might even challenge its tech rivals in retail.
Amazon Stores with Augmented Reality Technology
Amazon stores would be similar Apple’s shops. Amazon has bookstores which already sell some of its exclusive devices, but the new stores would emphasize on hardware and services like Prime Video and Echo speakers.
A note in the New York Times reads:
“The company is exploring the idea of creating stores to sell furniture and home appliances, like refrigerators — the kinds of products that shoppers are reluctant to buy over the internet sight unseen, said one of several people with knowledge of the discussions who, in conversations with The New York Times, spoke on condition of anonymity because the plans were confidential. The stores would serve as showcases where people could view the items in person, with orders being delivered to their homes.”
We don’t know for sure when these stores would begin to appear, there is even the chance that they never appear at all if the company considers them unworthy. But that doesn’t change the fact that physical stores are still far from being obsolete. However, in order to remain relevant, these stores would need to use innovative methods like augmented reality and virtual reality to improve the customer experience.
