Björk Digital: A Fantastic Immersive Exhibition

The exhibit is an opportunity to experience the VR videos that are set to be released on all major VR platforms this winter. But it is more than that, the exhibit includes cinema rooms, strange musical instruments, iPad apps and VR stations so people can immerse themselves into this artistic, technological, and filmic demonstration.

The first station shows two screens and it looks like a music video, you can see Björk dancing on top of black volcanic rock, beating her chest and tearing large pieces of black rock. The exciting part is the virtual reality experience, people go in groups to a series of stations where they are allowed to stand or sit on a stool while wearing VR headsets. Whether you sit or stand you can turn around in any direction you want and see a breathe-taking world in 360 degrees.

The Only Thing Better Than Björk Is Several Björks

Watching the stonemilker video in 360 degrees is an exciting moment, you can see several Björks singing from different angles on the beach. It almost feels as if you’re there smelling the salty water. Then it gets weirder but entertaining, as you can see Björk singing from the inside of someone’s mouth, or is it her mouth? In any case, it’s not as unpleasant as it sounds. In the end, there is beautiful scene where you can walk through a multicolored rendering of Björk’s music.

The whole experience is sensational, it inevitably makes you wish for more. But, can other videos be as amazing as Björk’s exhibit? The bar is high, but the Icelandic singer opened a road that many others can walk, and I hope they do. Even if you are not particularly a big fan of her, the artistic visual experience will still astonish you. The music is good, but it’s the overall experience what makes this setting so special.

Virtual Reality As A Space For Modern Art

Many people would argue that the exhibit’s success is owed to the innovative technology it used. But, is it? Did we really get tired of paintings short after the first artists made their masterpieces? Hell no. Just like art transformed and new forms of expressions appeared, virtual reality, and the hundreds of people behind it, are constantly building and developing new ways to amaze people.

Mixing music with virtual reality is just the start, virtual reality is becoming a space that welcomes everyone and everything. Videogames, shops, porn, music, art, and almost anything than can be entertaining or interesting for anyone. Björk might be the first, but she won’t definitely be the last.
