At the London Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced that it will collaborate with David Goyer (screenwriter for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and Man of Steel) and the virtual reality geniuses from ILMxLAB in order to make a Darth Vader virtual reality movie that won’t be like anything the franchise has ever done before.

A Star Wars VR Movie from Darth Vader’s Perspective

Instead of a simple virtual reality movie, the new Star Wars experience will place in a galaxy far, far away. People will put on the VR goggles and headphones to be able to make some interaction and experience what is like to be inside Vader’s body.

The Darth Vader Virtual Reality movie is supposed to be part of a new canon in the franchise, and the best part of all is that you will be able to make some impact in the storyline as it unfolds. People will be visitors in the story happening around them and, to a certain limit, they might be able to have some effect on it, as Goyer explains.

You will be able to pick up things from the ground, open things, walk, push, and even touch some of the characters. One of the most interesting aspects of the Star Wars VR movie is that it will have a “persistent world,” which means that it will go through day and night cycles as in real life. The persistent wold will even continue after the storyline is completed by users.

Star Wars VR: Trials on Tatooine

But if you can’t wait for the movie to be released you can still experience the Star Wars Virtual Reality right away. Star Wars announced that the Trials on Tatooine VR video game will be available for free next week. The bad news is that it will not be accessible to everyone since it can only be played with the HTC Vive.

The Trials on Tatooine video game is a Cinematic VR Experiment, and a successful experiment at that. The amazing interaction uses Virtual Reality technology to put you into a realistic scene inside the Star Wars universe.

A Virtual Reality Jedi Experience

The Virtual Reality video game, which looks more like an interactive VR movie, places you in the planet Tatooine at the same time that the Millennium Falcon arrives. The fantastic ship lands almost on top of the fan, making him duck instinctively.

At the beginning, Han Solo asks you to perform some tasks with the handheld remote that appears in front of you. After a while, when Stormtroopers start to show, R2-D2 gives a really cool lightsabre and you’ll know it’s time for some deflecting action.

Isn’t the trailer video exciting enough?
