Facebook Launches ‘Spaces’ – A Social VR Platform
Facebook Spaces has been released for the Oculus Rift system. This social VR platform Facebook’s first try to bring social interactions into virtual spaces.
Facebook Spaces VR – A Virtual Place to Meet
Facebook Spaces allows everyone with an Oculus Rift VR headset to connect their Facebook accounts and enter a virtual environment where communication does not limit itself to chat messages, but it expands interactions to human voices and the body language of your avatar.
“It’s easy to create an identity that represents the real you in Facebook Spaces. This helps people recognize you and makes VR feel more like hanging out in person. Just choose one of your Facebook photos and you’ll see an array of options for your VR appearance. Start with one of these options, then customize until it feels just right. You can change your eye color, hairstyle, facial features and more until your look fits your identity. It’s all about being yourself.”
The application enables up to four users to join a Facebook Space and chat, make video calls, watch videos, take VR selfies, draw, and all sort of entertaining stuff. The platform is quite simple to use and yet very cute and funny. It is built to make people feel comfortable in a space so they can interact with other people even better than in real life social interactions.
Virtual Reality allows that, and social VR should take advantage of the infinite possibilities of virtual environments to promote deeper and better social engagements. Facebook Spaces will first release for the Oculus Rift, its native platform, but it will definitely expand to other VR systems.
