Bandai Namco released a new trailer for its VR Zone Arcade located in Tokyo that shows several VR games played with an HTC Vive, and that includes Mario Kart.

Nintendo’s Mario Kart in Virtual Reality Arcade

Yes, it sounds too good to be true or far beyond our reach, and guess what, it’s only in Japan (Curses in Japanese). But it exists and the official page is promoting it along with other VR games such as Dragon Ball and Evangelion.

There isn’t much information on this release but from what we could see, it is a VR port of another pre-existing Mario Kart arcade game, which allows you to sit in a real kart and drive it with real pedals and a wheel.

However this became reality, there is no denying the fact that this arcade version of Mario Kart is the first Virtual Reality release of a Nintendo game ever. It even suits the idea of Nintendo for not entering the VR industry because of ‘gamer isolation’. Another surprising fact is that Bandai Namco chose the HTC Vive over other VR headset options for its VR arcade experience, but reasons are unknown.

It is far from likely that Nintendo will move to VR anytime soon with its new console, from experience, it’s known that Nintendo seems to be enjoying arriving late to all parties in the gaming industry, but we will have to wait and see. Maybe one day it will prove us wrong, hopefully.
