Skydance Interactive Brings Archangel to the Rift and the Vive

In Archangel, you play the role of a military personnel designated to be the pilot of a super-high mech. The VR game plays as an on-rails shooter, so players will have no control over their movement or pacing during the game. To compensate this lack of freedom, the game grants players the opportunity to wield a huge variety of interesting weapons.

If you play with Oculus Touch or HTC Vive controllers, each one will control a different arm of the big mech. Arms are equipped with a temporary shield that can be activated to provide the body with protection against incoming enemy fire. Both shields take their time to regenerate and you can’t use them if you are firing the weapons respectively attached to each arm, this results in quick-thinking so you can prepare your fire coverage while you also inflict damage on the enemy.

The vast quantity of weapons and their variety of execution make this game really hard for players to ever get bored, you will only struggle to find your balance of preferred weapons. Sometimes you will find yourself shooting with heavy-hitting weapons and other times with rapid-fire ones. It will mostly depend on the type of enemy you encounter during the game.

Archangel shows an impressive high-quality visual design with well-detailed character models and environments that will make you feel immersed in a real robot war. The visuals are of the highest standards, comparable to Lone Echo and Robot Recall in terms of visual fidelity.

The game is a successful delivery of challenge and spectacular looks, it provides players with intense on-rails shooter experience. However, we always end up wanting for more, probably because it’s good and somewhat addictive, or maybe we are just insatiable gamers with a lust for exciting games like this one. Archangel is the perfect use of Virtual Reality, we just wish the floor/chair was moving to make it even more realistic! Maybe in a few more years…
