A gameplay video for Doctor Who: The Edge of Time virtual reality game was quietly released last week which includes direct scenes of the VR experience. The video was first previewed during the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con 2019 in late July and is from the beta version of the game.
The Edge of Time will be released for HTC Vive, Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, Vive Cosmos and Playstation VR in September. It immerses players into a digital version of TARDIS. In the San Diego Comic-Con demo, it was faithfully recreated via a 3D scanner and photogrammetry for VR. That episode lasted only 13 minutes.
In the newest virtual reality offshoot of the famous sci-fi series, the player must find the eponymous Doctor Who with the assistance of the TARDIS time machine. The player will travel through the familiar and the unfamiliar new worlds to look for time crystals and help save the universe from a virus.
In this journey, the player will encounter the notorious Daleks as well as many other famous characters from the series. They will also encounter the old monsters as well as new ones that have never been seen before. There is a sonic screwdriver that has been designed to help with the creatures and in solving puzzles.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time has been developed by the London-based virtual reality studio Maze Theory. An advisor for the project is Sony’s former head of London Studio Dave Ranyard.
