Social VR App ‘AltspaceVR’ Launches on Oculus Quest on September 12
AltspaceVR was one of the pioneering social VR apps launched for headsets such as the Samsung Gear VR. It created a virtual space where users could hang out, create events and do much more. Over the past few years, the app has grappled with some glitches and hitches but it has been getting better and better in the recent months. On September 12, the app will be adding Oculus Quest to its large lineup of supported platforms, a move that will no doubt considerably boost its fortunes.
Oculus Quest is currently one of the most popular and fastest growing virtual reality platforms not just for users but also for developers.
The Quest platform already provides users with a rich array of social VR apps to pick from such as Rec Room, Bigscreen and VRChat. However, AltspaceVR offers something unique in the sense that it will be the only social VR app on Oculus Quest that enables users to interact with one another across multiple platforms/headsets thanks to its diverse lineup of supported platforms. Once in the AltspaceVR’s social VR space, you can choose to engage in various activities ranging from chatting with other mates to simply enjoying the numerous events on offer.
These events are held frequently and include music events, comedy events, watching numerous cat videos, browsing the internet or playing the many games on offer such as Dragons, chess or Dungeons. The AltspaceVR offers a diverse array of entertainment options and there is certainly something for everyone to indulge in. The app is also completely free so you pretty much have nothing to lose trying out this new social VR experience.
The social VR app comes with some unique features. You can use it to call people via Slack, hold your own virtual events and even capture the live events streaming on the app for repeat viewing. The app also offers the Frontrow feature that allows for an unlimited number of audience members to have a front row seat at an AltspaceVR event with everyone getting the best seat on offer.
AltspaceVR offers a very broad multi-platform support including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S, Google Daydream, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, Windows Mixed Reality and the Valve Index headset. The Oculus Quest support begins on 12 September 2019.
