Telepresence platform Glue Collaboration receive millions in funding

Glue Collaboration is a cloud-based platform which facilitates virtual meetings between people around the world. The collaboration platform brings people together within a three-dimensional virtual space which is entirely customizable to the group. The Glue experience has been designed to offer users a powerful alternative to the more expensive and productivity-sapping physical face-to-face meetings as well as the poor quality of audio or video calling systems.

Glue Collaboration was founded 15 years ago as an award-winning XR, animation and gaming studio. In 2017, the company morphed into Glue. The company believes the provision of an immersive feeling of “true presence” in communications is key to realizing effective team collaboration with other techniques.

Glue has also recently unveiled a new showcase of Microsoft security solutions in partnership with MacWell Creative. The showcase is specifically an interactive and worldwide escape-room style virtual reality experience known as Intersection. Intersection brings five participants together within a shared virtual space where they collaborate to solve various cybersecurity puzzles along with hacks in a race against the clock.

The Intersection concept provides an excellent demonstration of what is now realizable through immersive virtual 3D spaces. When a user enters Intersection, they are able to interact with others as if they were sitting face-to-face. It provides a true sense that the user is with their teammates inside the same physical space. This not only makes for a high-quality collaboration but it also ensures a better recall and retention rate realizable through learning by doing.

Virtual collaboration and telepresence are some of the most promising virtual reality use-cases. People in VR glasses are able to defy distance and work together in virtual spaces as if they were sitting together physically in the same space.

There are already interesting approaches and experiments on the telepresence uses of virtual reality. Glue emphasizes the use of telepresence as a body-wide communication platform that enables users across vast distances to leverage telepresence for face-to-face communications and help cut down on the travel budgets while also reducing the carbon footprints expended in business travel. The platform enables colleagues to meet in a virtual workspace and accomplish various boardroom tasks such as drawing or sketching whiteboards, drawing in the air sticking post-its on walls in the virtual workroom. Overall, the platform will boost both productivity and sustainability for businesses.
