Oculus Quest’s “VR Power” promises users a longer battery life with more comfort.

The new battery pack aims to boost the playtime on the headset and provide the user with an ergonomic solution designed to also counter-balance the front-heavy weight of the Quest headset.

The VR Power for Oculus Quest Power Bank was developed by Rebuff Reality and has just recently been availed for pre-order and will ship by early 2020. The expected delivery date has been set at January 10, 2020.

The battery pack will extend the Quest battery life by 10,000 mAh. The manufacturer has promised up to eight hours of additional virtual reality playtime and up to ten hours longer runtime for videos when fully charged.

The additional battery will be mounted at the back of the headgear of the Quest headset and should also serve as a counterweight to the front-heavy design of the Oculus Quest glasses. The new weight distribution means that the virtual reality glasses will apply less pressure on the face which will help improve the comfort. Weight that is concentrated at the back of the head is less annoying than one pressing on the cheekbones. A foam pad also ensures that the battery pack does not press on the back of the head.

The supplied USB-C cable connection of the battery pack is routed up the main belt and secured by clips. It is then connected to the Quest headset through an L-connector (an L-shaped plug). The L-connector ensures that the cable will sit firmly in the socket. The battery pack also has two additional USB-C ports for charging the headset or other hardware.

You can pre-order the VR Power battery pack on the Rebuff Reality website and it begins shipping in January 2020. The VR Power Pack costs $60 with a $20 shipping fee.

Oculus Quest Accessories: Two Battery Packs Now Available

The VR Power is not the first power pack availed for Quest. It will also have to compete against the VRNGRY Quest battery pack which has a capacity of 7,000 mAh and which supports about 6 hours of additional runtime for virtual reality games. The VRNGRY battery pack is more compact than the VR Power Pack and it is also serves as a counterweight for the headgear thus improving the comfort. It is also cheaper, costing just $40.
