The XR startup Within has presented one of the longest and most interactive augmented reality stories for the smartphone app Wonderscope. This time, the trip will take users to a nightly museum.

Within has described these little augmented reality stories as interactive picture books. With just an iPhone or an iPad, the user is able to project beautifully designed walk-in 3D environments into their own living rooms, interact with the characters in these stories and generally experience the story.

The picture book is an amazing learning experience where kids can practice their English speaking and reading skills and acquire knowledge.

Dubbed Sinclair Snake: Museum Mischief, this is the seventh augmented reality experience of the Wonderscope app. The app recently featured the haunted story Willowcrest Manor and before that, there was the space adventure Clio’s Cosmic Quest which is now free.

The latest episode lets the user know the good-natured but frightening museum guardian called Salamander. The player will search various areas of the museum for a snake, the unwanted visitor.

The user explores the dinosaur exhibition and goes under the artifacts of ancient Egypt and into medieval armor by tapping the objects. There are special boards that offer useful information about the historical objects.

Salamander gives a warning about the snake as dangerous, thieving and one which pollutes the museum through its mucus secretion. However, it soon emerges that the snake is not only harmless but only lives in the museum because it likes the history displayed therein. The story in this immersive experience is geared at teaching kids to recognize prejudices as such; just prejudices.

For a player to proceed in the immersive experience, they have to speak to the characters in the experience by uttering on-screen texts and interacting with the objects. All the interactions feel very natural.

Sinclair Snake: Museum Mischief is a continuation of Wonderscope’s tradition of stories that last 20 to 30 minutes.

You can enjoy the experience with an iPhone or an iPad although the iPad offers users the most convincing experience.
